In the southern Tunisian city of Gabes, a green hydrogen project is in development, aiming to transform the local energy and economic landscape. However, this initiative faces objections from residents concerned about potential environmental risks, given Gabes’ history with polluting chemical industries.

Describing the operational process, he explained that water is first drawn through a borehole, then passes through multi-media filtration for pre-treatment, before undergoing reverse osmosis. The final stage involves pH correction to guarantee water quality. He emphasized that the plant faces the same operational challenges as any conventional desalination unit, except for a simpler and more reliable energy supply, thanks to solar power.

The convening of the COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil, posed a significant challenge to the participation of many young people worldwide due to the high cost of travel and accommodation and the difficulty of reaching the conference site. This was clearly reflected in the decline of youth attendance from the Middle East and North Africa this year, pushing youth movements and coalitions to search for alternative ways to influence the process.
